September 30, 2007: Edinborough Park
The last Saturday and Sunday in September usually marks a change in seasons for The First John Philip Sousa Memorial Band.
On Saturday evening the band plays their only non-free concert of the year at the historic Sheldon Theatre in Red Wing, Minnesota. Unfortunately, Sheri and I weren't able to attend this concert this year. The program for this concert features a number of songs that the band has played over the Summer season.
Sunday night starts the "Indoor" or "Winter" season of concerts at Edinborough Park (an indoor park) in Edina, Minnesota. Here you'll find the band on the last Sunday of the month from September through May (except December). Every program is different and several have themes, spookly in October, marches in, when else?, March, the band's favorites in May.
The band was "up" for this concert. I'm sure you'll enjoy these recordings:
August 12, 2007: Torchlight Concert, Centennial Lakes
A time warp struck Centennial Lakes Park in Edina on Sunday evening, August 12, 2007. The effect took us back about a century to a Sunday evening concert in the "town square" by the town's band. The First John Philip Sousa Band took us on this magical journey. At the end of The Stars and Stripes Forever a short fireworks show brought us back to the Twenty-First Century. Through the magic of electronics we were able to capture these MP3 files while we were there (all at 192 Kbs):
August 5, 2007: Como Park
The band loves playing at this venue and it "shows" in these recordings.
This evening we were also priviledged to see and hear Scott's niece, Michelle Mahowald, dance with him to Shine.
These files are in MP3 format at 192Kbs:
